What is ASL®?

Information systems have been developed, managed and maintained for decades. Every application management organisation developed her own singularities. Although there was no serious attention to standardisation of maintenance and control of application management  processes. A remarkable situation because a very large part of IT expenses are spend on application management. Standardisation in work processes means mostly decreasing the costs for reinventing the wheels is very costly. You can better use the experiences of others.

Fortunately in the past years the tide is turning. There is a structured way of paying attention to this subject. Among other things this has led to a process framework with the underlying best practices for application management (= maintenance and control, enhancement and renovation of applications). This framework is called ASL® (Application Services Library) and is the only public domain standard in the world, dedicated to application management (AM). In this framework all relevant processes are described to deliver a full AM service to the customer/business organisation. Since a couple of years this knowledge is available to everybody.

By putting the Application Services Library into the public domain both internal as external oriented IT providers could have their profits of ASL by standardisation of the application management processes through uniform and unambiguous communication. The remarkable profits exist of cost decrease and quality improvement at the same time.
